Jokerit followed an overtime loss on opening night with four successive losses inside 60 minutes, including a couple of heavy defeats, but they ended that difficult start in style with a 3-0 win over Pelicans, who have now lost four on the bounce and dropped to eighth having begun the season with three wins in a row.
Powerplay goals from Alexander Forslund and Patrik Virta had the Helsinki side 2-0 up in just over 15 minutes, before Forslund added his second - also with an extra man - in the second period. Forslund and assist-supplier Patrick Curry scored three points each, as Tomi Karhunen made 20 saves to earn his shutout, 10 of which came in the final period.
Christian Heljanko kept his first shutout of the season in Tappara's thrashing of none other than Jokerit in both side's previous match, and the champions' goaltender was at it again with 22 saves in his side's 4-0 win over Karpat, who have lost three of their last four and sit in 12th place.
Tappara are up to sixth having won three of their first five domestic outings, and the points were secured by goals from Aapeli Rasanen and Niclas Almari in the opening period before Ondrej Pavel and Joachim Blichfeld completed the rout.
Following an overtime win in their previous match, Lukko have made it two wins in a row with a 3-1 success at Hameenlinna, who were unable to build on victory over TPS Turku last time out. HPK sit 14th and Lukko 9th, but with just two points separating the sides.
After a goalless opener, Heikki Liedes and Alex Beaucage had the Rauma side 2-0 up in the second, and though Ethan de Jong closed the deficit soon after, Topias Haapanen sealed the win with an empty-net goal with just over a minute to play.
