In exchange, the Vikings are receiving a 2027 fifth-round draft pick.

New York made the move after it was announced that starting QB Jaxson Dart would miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery Friday to repair the meniscus and MCL in his left knee. 

McCarthy was listed as the third QB on the Vikings depth chart heading into this season, behind Kyler Murray and veteran Carson Wentz, after throwing for 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions with 1,632 yards and a 57.6% completion percentage in 10 games last season as the starter.

Head coach John Harbaugh mentioned after yesterday's 12-7 win over the Tennessee Titans that he expects backup Jameis Winston to remain the starter heading into Week 4. 

However, this was before the deal for McCarthy was made. Winston is 25-of-49 passing in two games this season for 221 yards, no touchdowns, one interception, and a brutal 55.6 passer rating. 

The Giants signed the 32-year-old to a two-year, $13 million deal in the offseason.

New York are 2-1 heading into Week 4, where they'll be facing the 1-2 Arizona Cardinals on October 4th.
