5) Denmark 1-1 Portugal, June 1996 – EURO 1996, group stage
The very first time these two nations crossed paths in a major international tournament. Denmark entered the tournament as the defending European Champions, while Portugal was showcasing its heavily hyped "Golden Generation" led by Luís Figo and Rui Costa. Brian Laudrup opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a powerful angled shot past goalkeeper Vítor Baía after taking advantage of a defensive clearance.
Ricardo Sá Pinto equalized in the 53rd minute with a header from an António Folha cross.
4) Denmark - 2-1 Portugal, October 2011, European Championships qualifying match
Played in front of a packed crowd of over 38,000 fans at the Parken Stadion in Copenhagen, Portugal only needed a draw to win the qualifying group due to goal difference, while Denmark needed an outright victory to avoid the dreaded playoff round. Michael Krohn-Dehli opened the scoring for Denmark with a right-footed shot after a crisp pass from a young Christian Eriksen before Nicklas Bendtner doubled the lead, finishing off a brilliant cross orchestrated by Eriksen and winger Dennis Rommedahl. Cristiano Ronaldo scored a stunning, trademark 30-yard direct free-kick deep into stoppage time to cut the deficit.
3) Denmark 2-3 Portugal, June 2012, EURO 2012, group stage
Portugal took a commanding lead early in the game, but a resilient Denmark side fought back before a late substitute goal saved the night for the Portuguese. Pepe's thumping near-post header put Portugal ahead, before Helder Postiga smashed in a close-range effort. But two headed goals from striker Nicklas Bendtner brought the Danes level and looked set to leave Paulo Bento's men with an uphill task to advance from the group when substitute Silvestre Varela's late strike boosted Portugal's hopes of reaching the quarter-finals.
2) Portugal 2-3 Denmark, September 2008, World Cup qualifying match
Played at the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon, the match is widely remembered for its wild, explosive final 10 minutes. Portugal controlled much of the game under manager Carlos Queiroz. They initially broke the deadlock just before halftime when Nani scored in the 42nd minute. For most of the second half, the hosts looked securely in charge. However, during the last ten minutes the match virtually exploded as Denmark stunned the Lisbon crowd with two goals in stoppage time through Christian Poulsen and Daniel Jensen to turn a 2–1 deficit into a 3–2 win.
1) Portugal 5-2 Denmark, March 2025 Nations League Quarter-final
With the Danes leading the tie 1-0 thanks to Rasmus Hojlund's goal from the first leg in Copenhagen, Ronaldo bounced back from missing an early penalty to play a crucial role in his team's recovery. Christian Eriksen put Denmark in front on aggregate in the 76th minute before Trincão scored against the heroically defending Danes in the 86th minute to make it 3-3 on aggregate and force extra time before netting again with a superb clipped finish in the 91st to put his side in the driving seat. Substitute Gonçalo Ramos added the coup de grace with Portugal's fifth.
